More about The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride!
Taking place this Sunday across the globe is the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. #DGR is a multi-national themed rideout event hosted all over the world to raise money to find a cure for prostate cancer and preventing suicide amongst men. The Movember Foundation, the one that supports the very famous ‘No Shave November‘ supports DGR as well. The ride is an international event for classics, café racers, bobbers, trackers, customs, modern classics and classic scooters.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in 2012 by Mark Hawwa in Sydney, Australia, after being inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper sitting on a classic bike, wearing his finest suit. It was then that he decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, whilst connecting niche motorcycle communities together. The idea was such a hit that it brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities. The success of the event encouraged Mark to utilise this to support a worthy cause. And the rest is now History! With Triumph, Zenith Watches, Hedon on board the event has expanded and how! It’s now in Ludhiana, need we say more?
Since its inception, DGR has spread to more countries, cities, and towns each year.
In 2016, more than 56,000 smartly-dressed riders took to their classic and vintage motorcycles for rideouts in 505 cities (Ludhiana was one of them) across 90 countries and raised $3.6M (USD). All of the events helped to raise awareness and funds for DGR’s two chosen causes.
